Seoul to Bring up Family Reunions at Inter-Korean Talks

The South Korean government is expected to raise issues related to separated families at the second inter-Korean high-level talks which could be held as soon as the end of this month.

Ministry of Unification spokesman Lim Byeong-cheol made the remark at a regular briefing Monday. Regarding Unification Minister Ryoo Kihl-jae's remark that an "extraordinary measure" is needed for the separated families, Lim said it means reunions must be held regularly and the families should be able to confirm the life and death of their relatives on the other side of the border in the near future.

On the possibility of holding a family reunion within this year, Lim said if the two Koreas reach an agreement, the timing of the event will be chosen in consideration of its urgency and importance.
