N. Korea to Submit Its Own Human Rights Resolution

North Korea has said it will issue its own resolution on its human rights situation, strongly protesting a move at the United Nations to refer its leader Kim Jong-un to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The North Korean Permanent Mission to the UN in New York sent a letter Thursday to the delegations from the other UN member countries. In the letter, it said it will make a draft of a resolution regarding its human rights situation and submit it to the UN.

The North's plan seems to be aimed at defending itself against the unprecedented resolution calling for bringing Kim to the ICC for anti-human rights charges. The draft resolution was led by the European Union and Japan, and was confidentially circulated in the UN on Wednesday.

In the letter, the North Korean mission warned that the draft means an outright confrontation with the regime. It said it will explain about the measures to secure human rights in the nation, including free education and health care. The mission also said an improvement in relations with South Korea also will be also included in its envisioned resolution.
