"Payment Method for Mt. Geumgang Tours Could Become Problem"

South Korea’s Ambassador to the UN Oh Joon says payments made to North Korea for tours to Mount Geumgang could be in violation of UN Security Council resolutions.

Oh made the remark in New York on Tuesday during the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee’s inspection of government agencies. He said the tours themselves are not an issue, but payment methods could spark problems.

The ambassador said UN Security Council resolutions call for a thorough review on the possibility of payments to the North being used to develop weapons even if the funds go through banks. He cited the resolutions stress the need for a guarantee that a large amount of funds will not go toward developing weapons.
