The main opposition New Politics Alliance for Democracy (NPAD) Rep. Park Jie-won said the two Koreas would hold working-level talks at the truce village of Panmumjeom at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The opposition heavyweight discussed the contact at the party’s emergency council meeting earlier in the day.
He said the two Koreas would discuss the issue of South Korean civic groups' anti-Pyongyang leaflet activities and the North's recent crossing of the Northern Limit Line, the de facto maritime border in the Yellow Sea.
Park added that he hopes Wednesday's inter-Korean contact would be held successfully and lead to the lifting of the South’s sanctions on the North and the resumption of the inter-Korean Geumgang tour program.
Sources have reported that inter-Korean general-level military talks are being held at the truce village on Wednesday morning.
A South Korean government official said earlier on Wednesday that the two sides would soon hold military talks aimed at easing military tensions.
