S. Korea Fires Warning Shots at NK Soldiers Approaching MLD

South Korean border guards fired warning shots on Saturday as about ten North Korean soldiers approached the military demarcation line (MDL) inside the demilitarized zone (DMZ).

An official at South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said that the North Korean soldiers stayed around their side of the MDL in Cheorwon, Gangwon Province from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The JCS official said that South Korean guards fired warning shots after broadcasting warning messages in accordance with their military's related manuals.

The official added that the North Koreans checked the MDL markers on the northern side of the border and neither crossed the MDL nor responded to the warning shots.

The North Koreans soldiers are said to have returned at around 4 p.m.
