'New N. Korean Submarine Spotted in Satellite Images'

A U.S. expert on North Korea’s defense and intelligence affairs said in a report on Sunday that a new North Korean submarine has been spotted in satellite images.

Joseph Bermudez Jr., Chief Analytics Officer of AllSource Analysis, said in an article on the North Korea analysis Web site, 38 North, that the new submarine was found in commercial satellite photos of North Korean submarine bases and shipbuilding yards. The images dated from 2010 to August this year.

Bermudez said that the submarine appears to be 67 meters long and six-point-six meters wide with a displacement of up to one-thousand-500 tons.

The expert said, however, that no torpedoes or missile tubes were spotted on the bow and deck of the submarine, which has an observatory at the center.
