Kirby: UN Security Council Should Refer N. Korea to ICC

Former chairman of the Commission of Inquiry on Human Rights in North Korea Michael Kirby has urged the UN Security Council to refer North Korea to the International Criminal Court.

The Australian judge made the call on Wednesday when he talked about the North’s violations of human rights during a debate at the UN headquarters in New York.

Kirby said the UN should not "trade away" the possibility of tough sanctions for concessions from North Korea.

He said the world body is facing a "moment of truth,” adding that it is important not to exchange it for “a little bit of charm.”
