A perfectly preserved pair of gilt bronze shoes has been found in an ancient grave from the Baekje Kingdom in Naju, South Jeolla Province.

The National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage said it found the shoes and other historical relics inside a five-meter-long ancient stone tomb in Naju.

The institute said it appears that the gilt bronze shoes were made in the Baekje Kingdom. It added that the relic offers glimpses into the relations between Baekje and the native forces of Mahan, an ancient kingdom that was later absorbed into the Baekje Kingdom.

In the past, gilt bronze shoes were found in the tomb of Baekje’s King Muryeong. However, the recent discovery is the first time gilt bronze shoes preserved in perfect original form have been discovered.
