The opening ceremony of the first South & North Korean Film Screening was held on Saturday.
Some 200 guests including Unification Minister Rhoo Kihl-ja, movie directors and actors attended the ceremony held in Seoul.
The event, hosted by the Employment and Welfare Committee for Audio-Visual Industry, will run through the end of October.
During the event period, a North Korean movie filmed and produced in the communist state will be screened for the first time in South Korea.
Produced in 1993, the 75-minute movie, "Sisters," tells the story of a man who refrains from establishing a relationship with a woman because she repairs shoes for a living. In the end, he decides to marry her after being scolded by his father.
Two North Korean movies produced with foreign partners and six South Korean movies with inter-Korean themes will be screened for free during the event at 20 cinemas across the country.
