The Unification Ministry has reaffirmed the stance that the inter-Korean agreement to hold high-level talks must be honored.
When asked about the prospect of the high-level inter-Korean contact taking place, a Unification Ministry official said Tuesday that it can't be concluded that the contact is unlikely.
The comment follows a message from North Korea last week that said the North can reconsider its agreement with Seoul to hold a second round of high-level talks due to the continued distribution of anti-North propaganda leaflets sent across the border by South Korean civic groups.
The official noted that the two Koreas had agreed to hold talks between late this month and early next month. He said "early next month" typically refers to up until November 10 and even after the date, it still can't be said that all opportunities are lost for good.
The two Koreas agreed to hold high-level talks between late October and early November when a top-ranking North Korean delegation made a surprise visit to South Korea on October 4 to attend the closing ceremony of the Incheon Asian Games.
Seoul has since proposed to hold the meeting this coming Thursday but the North has not responded.
