Bush Demands Humane Treatment for Prisoners

In Washington D.C., U.S. President George W. Bush has demanded that American troops held captive in Iraq be treated humanely, warning that Iraqis who do otherwise will be punished as war criminals.

Bush made the remarks Sunday shortly after an Arab satellite station aired footage from Iraqi television of interviews with what the stations identified as captured American prisoners.

Even as American forces suffered casualties and Iraq took prisoners of war, Bush said he was pleased with the progress of war. He said
