The UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in North Korea said the North has offered him or other UN human rights agents a visit to the reclusive country.
In a meeting with reporters after submitting his latest report on North Korea, Special Rapporteur Marzuki Darusman said the proposal was made when he met the North's Deputy UN Ambassador Ri Tong-il on Monday.
Darusman said though his report is strictly based on facts, there is still a need for a visit to the North since the research for the report was done outside North Korea.
He said the North said it will accept the framework of a UN investigation into the human rights issue but asked for the deletion of a call for the referral of its supreme leader from the envisioned UN General Assembly resolution on the North Korean human rights situation.
He also said that dealing with the human rights abuses in the North is not confined to the referral to the ICC, and there could be an alternative to the referral.
