Gov't to Pay W98 Mn for N. Korea's Para Games Expenses

The government says it will pay up to 98 million won in the cost for the North Korean athletes’ participation in the Incheon Asian Para Games held last week.

Unification Ministry deputy spokeswoman Park Soo-jin said Friday that the government decided to help fund the costs from the Inter-Korean Cooperation Fund upon a formal request from the games' organizing committee.

Park said the price ceiling for the assistance for the North Korean athletes' stay is set around 98 million won, excluding airfare. She said the exact figure will be determined after final calculations are made.

North Korea took part in the Asian Para Games for the first time this year sending a 33-member squad. The North finished 29th in the medal tally, winning a bronze medal in swimming and table tennis.
