A U.S. aid group has delayed its visit to North Korea, as Pyongyang announced a plan to put all foreign visitors in quarantine as part of efforts to prevent the spread of the Ebola virus into the communist country.
Quoting Heidi Linton, executive director of the “Christina Friends of Korea,” Voice of America reported Tuesday that the U.S. humanitarian group postponed its trip after receiving a notice from the North saying that it will keep all foreign visitors in quarantine for a period of 21 days.
Linton said her organization has not canceled the trip but will reschedule when the quarantine measure is lifted.
Workers of the Christian Friends of Korea planned to visit the North on Tuesday on a mission to give health officials in North Korea vaccine shots against Hepatitis B. They were also scheduled to visit the North’s national institute on tuberculosis during their 19-day stay until November 22.
No suspected Ebola cases have yet been reported in North Korea.
