RFA: N. Korea Allows Foreign Participants in Pyongyang Marathon

Radio Free Asia (RFA) said Thursday that North Korea has allowed foreign tourists to take part in an international marathon to be held in Pyongyang next year.

RFA reported that Woori Tours, a U.S.-based tourist agency specializing in tour programs to the North, said North Korean authorities approved its tour program that includes the two day Mangyongdae Prize International Marathon beginning April 11, 2015.

The participants will fly from Shanghai to Pyongyang on the North’s Air Koryo. Worth two-thousand 400 dollars, the seven-day package will also include tours in Pyongyang and to the demilitarized zone (DMZ).

Meanwhile, Koryo Tours, a tourist agency in Beijing, said around 200 amateur athletes participated in the Mangyongdae Prize International Marathon for the first time last April.
