A pro-Pyongyang newspaper based in Japan highlighted the delivery of a letter from U.S. President Barack Obama to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and stressed the importance of U.S. actions going forward.
The Chosun Sinbo said Tuesday future actions by the United States will show President Obama's intentions and determination. It said if the United States wants to make the delivery of the letter a new starting point for serious talks, the North will comply.
The newspaper added that the North appears to have conveyed essential issues related to Washington-Pyongyang relations to the U.S. envoy and that it remains to be seen if the gesture will extend into the resumptions of talks between the two nations.
The comments come as Pyongyang remains silent on the release of Kenneth Bae and Matthew Todd Miller since they were freed on Saturday. U.S. Director of National Intelligence James Clapper delivered the letter last week when he visited Pyongyang to secure the release of two detained Americans.
