Seoul to Hold Kimchi Making Festival

Seoul City will hold a kimchi making festival from Friday to Sunday.

In the 2014 Seoul Kimchi Making and Sharing Festival, nine thousand people including company officials, volunteers and tourists, will make kimchi with 100-thousand heads of napa cabbage at Seoul Plaza.

The city plans to donate 260 tons of kimchi made in the event to the needy.

At Gwanghwamun Plaza, rare types of kimchi, such as those made at Buddhist temples, will be on display. Additionally, a kimchi class will show visitors how to make kimchi.

About 60 businesses will hold a discount event for their kimchi products and ingredients at Seoul Plaza and the Taepyeongro area.

The city said that parts of the roads of Taepyeong-ro and the plaza around City Hall will be closed from Friday to early on Monday. Also, all the lanes of Sejong-daero in the Sejongro direction will be closed from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
