Head of Russian Company Set to Renovate N. Korean Railways Arrested Tues.

The head of a Russian construction company that has received orders to renovate North Korea’s railways has been arrested for failing to pay wages to workers.

Russia’s Itar-Tass news agency said Oleg Shishov, the general director of Mostovik, was arrested on Tuesday for not paying monthly wages to his employees. He is also suspected of illegally pocketing 500 million rubles in government funds for the construction of a facility of a hydroelectric power plant.

Shishov’s arrest is expected to seriously hamper construction plans for the order Mostovik secured to renovate the North’s railways. Construction fees for the project are estimated to stand at 25 billion dollars.
