Voice of America said Friday that Welthungerhilfe, a German private aid group, will start producing vegetable seeds in North Korea beginning next year.

In an interview with the VOA, Gerhard Uhrmacher, the North Korea aid program manager at Welthungerhilfe, said the group will produce eight to ten kinds of vegetable seeds in the North, such as Chinese cabbage and tomato seeds, and distribute them throughout the country’s regions.

The group has allotted one-point-five million euro, or about two billion won, for the project that it estimates will take three years to complete.

Welthungerhilfe has provided aid to the North since 1997. It is currently managing several projects in the North, such as cleaning sewage and distributing potato seeds.
