According to officials Monday South Korea is seeking to join the negotiations for the construction and operation of a major international magnetic fusion research project.
The Ministry of Science and Technology said a task force consisting of government officials, professors and energy exports, will submit the results of a feasibility study to the Presidential Advisory Council for Science and Technology next month.
The special team held its first plenary meeting Feb. 20 to discuss ways of speeding up the process of joining the international fusion project, known as the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER).
The government plans to ask ITER officials to visit Korea in an effort to seek advice on the legal procedures for membership, according to ministry officials.
