Uijeongbu St. Mary's to Run Gaeseong Park Clinic from Next Yr

The Unification Ministry said Friday that it has chosen Catholic University Uijeongbu St. Mary's Hospital as the next hospital to operate an emergency medical facility at the inter-Korean Gaeseong Industrial Park.

Uijeongbu St. Mary's Hospital will station a seven-member medical team at the business park which will include one doctor and two nurses to treat South Korean workers. It will also provide emergency treatment and medical services in surgical and dermatological areas.

The medical facility treats some 300 to 400 workers every month at the complex’s 14-hundred square meter emergency center that hosts ten sickbeds.

Inje University Ilsan Paik Hospital has been running the facility since late 2012 but will finish out its contract at the end of the year.

North Korea, meanwhile, operates its own hospital for its workers employed at the Gaeseong complex.
