Hyundai Chairwoman Makes Day Trip to N. Korea on Geumgang Tour Anniv.

Hyundai Group Chairwoman Hyun Jeong-eun traveled to North Korea Tuesday morning to attend an event marking the 16th anniversary of South Korea’s now suspended tours to the North's Mount Geumgang resort.

In the afternoon, Hyun will inspect tourist facilities at Geumgang and return to the South before the evening.

South Korean tours to Geumgang first began on November 18, 1998, with the number of tourist joining the program topping one million in 2005 and one-point-nine million by 2008.

But the program was suspended in July 2008, following the death of a South Korean tourist who was shot by a North Korean soldier around the Geumgang resort.
