S. Korea Willing to Discuss Resumption of Tours to Mount Geumgang

Unification Minister Ryoo Kihl-jae said if a second high-level inter-Korean dialogue takes place, the government is willing to discuss all pending issues between the two Koreas, including the resumption of tours to Mount Geumgang.

Delivering an address on Monday at an event to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Peace Foundation, Ryoo said the government has expressed on numerous occasions that it is willing to discuss the resumption of tours to the mountain resort.

Ryoo said he was filled with emotion as the day marked the 16th anniversary of the start of the Geumgang tours. He said the program had served as a symbol of peace for ten years withstanding small and large difficulties. He added that the mountain was a place for substantial education on peaceful unification.

Seoul suspended the tour program in July 2008 after the death of a South Korean tourist who was shot by a North Korean soldier around the Geumgang resort.
