Aides to former First Lady Lee Hee-ho are currently holding working-level talks in North Korea to discuss Lee's visit to the North.
Seven officials of the Kim Dae Jung Peace Center, including former culture minister Kim Sung-jae, arrived at the North's Gaeseong Industrial Complex Friday morning. They are known to be holding talks with officials of the North's Asia-Pacific Peace Committee at the office of the Development Guidance Bureau inside the complex.
Before leaving for Gaeseong, Kim told reporters that discussions at Friday’s meeting will include the former first lady's itinerary and travel route as well as aid items she will bring to North Korea.
Kim also said that Pyongyang welcomed Lee’s planned visit during the preliminary consultations with the North.
Kim added that his party will also inform the North of Lee's wishes to visit a childcare facility when she visits the North Korean capital.
The Unification Ministry will observe results of the Gaeseong meeting before deciding whether to approve Lee's cross-border visit.
Ninety-two-year-old Lee is the widow of former president Kim Dae-jung.
