Skater Lee Wins Gold in 500M Race at World Cup

Speed skater Lee Sang-hwa won the gold medal in the women’s 500 meter at the International Skating Union (ISU) Speed Skating World Cup in Seoul.

Lee, the two-time Olympic gold medalist, finished first with a time of 37.99 seconds on Saturday in the second 500-meter race in Division A at Taeneung International Rink.

Lee finished second in the first 500-meter race on Friday, failing to win gold for the 11th consecutive time in the World Cup, but grabbed gold on Saturday to secure the 30th win of her career.

Sochi Winter Olympics gold medalist Park Seung-hi, who shifted from short-track to speed skating, finished 19th in the women's 500-meter race with a time of 39.35 seconds.

Korea's leading long track skaters Lee Seung-hun finished eighth in the men’s 10,000 meter clocking in at 13-minutes-54 seconds.
