Crimes Against S. Korean Tourists in Turkey Increasing

Crimes against South Koreans are increasing in Turkey as more South Korean tourists are visiting the country.

Turkey’s Culture Ministry said that more than 190-thousand South Koreans visited Turkey in the first nine months of the year, up 33-and-a-half percent year-on-year.

South Korea’s Embassy in Istanbul said that with the sharp increase in South Korean tourists visiting Turkey, various crimes are being reported such as poisoning and robbing.

In November last year, a local travel agency in Turkey unilaterally stopped tour services for South Korean tourists and took their baggage, claiming that it did not receive fees from a South Korean agency. The tourists are said to have paid an additional one million won each to return home.
