South Korea’s national football team has received the Fair Play Award by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
Team Korea was named the winner of the Fair Play Award for 2014 during the AFC’s Annual Awards night held in Manila on Sunday, after outperforming Japan and Iran with a score of 613-point-51 points.
The Fair Play Award is given out to the team that has exemplified good sportsmanship.
Team Korea’s manager, Hong Myung-bo, was also included among the AFC Hall of Fame inductees, along with Ali Daei of Iran. The hall was established to mark the AFC’s 60th anniversary.
Also on Sunday, the Western Sydney Wanderers of Australia was named the AFC Club of the Year and Tony Popovic, also of Australia, was picked as AFC Coach of the Year.
Palestine, which won the AFC Challenge Cup, was selected as the AFC National Team of the Year for 2014.
Nassir Al Shamrani of Saudi Arabia was named AFC Player of the Year and Katrina Lee Gorry of Australia was picked AFC Women’s Player of the Year.
