N. Korea Threatens to Reduce US Bases in Japan to Ashes

North Korea has denounced the U.S. for saying its troops stationed in Japan will automatically intervene in the event of a contingency on the Korean Peninsula without holding prior consultation with the Japanese government.

The Rodong Sinmun, the gazette of the North's ruling Workers' Party, claimed in a statement Sunday that with such affirmation, Washington had revealed its ambitions to invade the North. The statement added that if U.S. forces stationed in Japan intervene in the event of an emergency on the Korean Peninsula, U.S. bases in Japan will be ruthlessly reduced to ashes.

The report added that the North will continue to actively boost its nuclear deterrence and threatened to prove its capacity in the near future.
