US Defense Policy Committee chairman Richard Perle said Thursday that the United States is not preparing for waging any additional war against nations other than Iraq, which pose threats against the US.

The chairman also said if the Iraqi war ended, the US leadership will be needed to establish a new post-war world order, whereas the importance of the United Nations and NATO would be diminished.

Chairman Perle made the remarks in an interview with the German daily Berliner Zeitung on Wednesday. The US official also stated that the US would not prepare for any more war since there would be much different character and circumstances surrounding each country.

In the case of North Korea, he said, things could become complicated if the North is capable of developing nuclear arms or if it dares to them, it would cost them dearly. Thus, he said, there is still room for political negotiations.

He claimed that the United Nations falls far short of the tasks for guaranteeing global security and the western nations should negotiate on how to safeguard their collective security system after the post-war in Iraq.
