N. Korean UN Ambassador Writes to Ban, Refuses to Accept HR Resolution

North Korea’s Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Ja Song-nam has conveyed to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon that Pyongyang cannot accept a new UN resolution condemning the North’s human rights violations.

In a letter to Ban, Ja claimed that the European Union (EU) and Japan, who drew up the new resolution, chose confrontation with North Korea in line with Washington’s hostile policy against the North.

Ja added that the hostile policy adopted by the U.S. has made it impossible for the North to refrain from carrying out new nuclear tests. He then warned that his country will act on the direction it chooses regardless of decisions made by the international community.

Attached to Ja’s letter was a statement from the North’s Foreign Ministry that denounced the new UN resolution on the North’s human rights violations as a political provocation.
