S. Korea Added to 2015 Formula One Season

Foreign media reported Wednesday that South Korea has been provisionally added to a 21-race calendar for the 2015 Formula One season.

The Associated Press (AP) said the governing International Automobile Federation released the schedule for next year and that it includes reinstating the South Korean Grand Prix. The season is set to kick off in Australia on March 15.

The AP added, however, that the schedule for South Korea to stage the fifth round of the season on May 3 is subject to final approval.

Also on Wednesday, Reuters said that South Korea’s return came as a surprise after it had been dropped in 2014. It added that doubts were immediately raised on the likelihood of it happening with the tight turnaround, and the teams’ previous reluctance to have more than 20 races.

South Korea was dropped from the 2014 schedule after hosting four races from 2010 through 2013.
