Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se says the recent resolution adopted by the UN Third Committee condemning North Korea's human rights violations could also be discussed at the UN Security Council.
Yun, who is visiting the U.K., made the remarks during the keynote speech he delivered at a seminar on security on the Korean peninsula held at U.K.-based think tank Chatham House Thursday.
A day before on Wednesday, a foreign ministry official said that South Korea is seeking to present North Korea’s human rights issue as an official topic for discussions at the UN Security Council around the time of UN General Assembly, if possible.
Yun added that dialogue between the two Koreas should be institutionalized and sensitive issues such as human rights should be dealt with head-on.
As for the resumption of the six-party talks aimed at the North's denuclearization, Yun said discussions on conditions for resuming the talks are underway and various forms of scaled-down multilateral cooperation are being explored.
