'Unification is Magic Potion for Korean Peninsula Issues'

A senior South Korean presidential aide tried to promote the unification of the two Koreas, calling it a "magic potion" to resolve North Korea’s nuclear issue and other problems on the peninsula.

Senior presidential foreign affairs secretary, Ju Chul-ki, made the remarks on Monday during a session at the World Policy Conference, an annual international meeting, in Seoul.

Ju said that a successful denuclearization of the peninsula would serve as an example for international efforts to make a nuclear-free world.

The presidential aide also said that the six-party nuclear talks should be resumed and the two Koreas should pursue direct talks to lay the groundwork for eventual unification.

He added that a multilateral security dialogue would be the proper approach to the North's nuclear issue and this approach would help ease the North’s concerns and anxiety about its nuclear abandonment.
