Traditional Korean paper “hanji” received favorable reviews at an exhibition held in Italy.

Jeonju City in North Jeolla Province and its Hanji Industry Support Center operated a booth to promote hanji at the 2014 L’artigiano in Fiera, a handicraft exhibition held in Milan from November 29 to December 8.

Some three thousand companies from 12 countries participated in the ten-day event held on a 150-thousand square meters site, drawing about three-and-a-half million visitors.

Jeonju city said that it displayed hanji products as well as soap, stationery, scarves and brooches made of hanji and received positive responses from visitors.

Since 2007, the city has decorated a reception hall of the UN secretary-general’s office and the main hall of the Korean mission to the UN with hanji and hanji craftworks as part of efforts to promote the paper.

The city is also remodeling the offices of 50 diplomatic missions overseas with hanji in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry.
