Hyundai Asan Officials to Visit Mt. Geumgang Tuesday

A group of working-level officials of Hyundai Asan will visit Mount Geumgang in North Korea on Tuesday.

The four-member group of Hyundai Asan, the operator of tours to Mount Geumgang and Gaeseong in North Korea, will carry out on-site inspections before returning home on Thursday.

An official of Hyundai Asan said the group will ready facilities for winter, including draining water from boilers at some buildings that have been left vacant since early this year.

Tours to Mount Geumgang began in 1998 and drew some one-point-nine million South Korean tourists until 2008 when tours were suspended after the death of a South Korean tourist who was shot by a North Korean soldier around the Geumgang resort.

Hyundai Asan is estimated to have suffered roughly 800 billion won in losses during the past six years due to the halt in the Mount Geumgang tours.
