KBS America Launches Terrestrial HD Service

KBS America, a U.S. affiliate of the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS), has launched a high-definition broadcasting service via a terrestrial channel, a first among Korean-language broadcasters in the U.S.

KBS America said Wednesday that it started airing KBS World in HD through KXLA 44.1, a terrestrial channel which reaches five-point-six million households in southern California.

The company also said that it will become possible within this month for people to watch HD-converted KBS World through cable providers such as Time Warner and satellite services such as DirecTV.

Around 23 million households in North America watch KBS World, the biggest viewership among all Asian TV channels available in the region.
