Saenuri Chief: N. Korea Not to Open Up Fully

The head of the ruling Saenuri Party says he thinks North Korea will only open itself up enough to keep its people alive.

In a meeting with some 30 Stanford University students on Tuesday, Saenuri Chairman Kim Moo-sung said the North Korean dictator is well aware that his regime will collapse if it opens its door beyond a certain limit.

He added that stricken by extreme poverty and food shortage, the North's regime has been using its nuclear program as a means to threaten the international community into providing aid and assistance in order to keep its people alive.

Kim stressed that North Korea’s nuclear weapons are a very serious threat and South Korea has no choice but to respond to it.

The Saenuri chief stated that it is difficult to expect a regime collapse from the inside, since it has exterminated political dissidents.
