"N. Korea Capable of Launching Stuxnet Cyberattack"

A U.S. expert has claimed that North Korea is capable of attempting a massive cyber attack on the United States or its allies using a state-of-the-art cyber warfare weapon such as the Stuxnet virus.

James Lewis, a senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), made the assessment at a news conference hosted by the Website 38 North on Wednesday.

During the conference, Lewis said the North has reached the point where it is equipped with the ability to develop Stuxnet.

He said that Stuxnet is the most fatal cyber warfare weapon developed in human history and owned currently only by three or four countries, including the U.S. and Israel.

Stuxnet is a computer virus developed to target social infrastructure such as airports and railways. In 2011, the U.S. and Israel used it to paralyze the operation of centrifuges at Iranian nuclear facilities.
