Seoul Hails UN Resolution on N. Korean Human Rights

The government has hailed the passage of a new UN resolution on North Korean human rights violations and urged the regime to take measures to improve the situation.

In a statement issued under the name of a Foreign Ministry spokesman on Friday, the South Korean government said it welcomes the adoption of the resolution at the General Assembly on Thursday.

The government said the fact that the resolution was adopted with overwhelming support reflects the UN and the international community’s determination to actively respond to the North’s serious human rights situation.

The government then urged the North to take concrete and substantial steps to improve the human rights of its people.
