Report: Special Christmas trees set up in Gimhae, South Gyeongsang Province, each display ornaments representing various countries.

The trees are part of seasonal celebrations by Gimhae City and Dongsang-dong Township, the hosts of the World Christmas Culture Festival running until January 5.

Stretching 150 meters, the Rodeo Street venue in Dongsang-dong town is a popular hangout site for immigrants in South Korea for whom Christmas can be a lonely time.

Immigrants from 12 countries, including Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Nepal, Mongolia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines, got together to decorate Christmas trees with unique objects from their home countries.

The trees are strewn with traditional ornaments and decorations featuring their native languages, making Christmas in Korea feel closer to their hearts.

Also during the festival, visitors can enjoy dance performances and a concert at the site of the festivities every day at 1 p.m.

As of late October this year, a total of 15-thousand 957 immigrants from 55 countries are registered as Gimhae residents, making the city the second biggest area in Korea populated by foreigners.

Currently in its second year, organizers say the festival was designed to promote interaction and communication between Koreans and immigrants and to boost the business in the commercial district.
