Gov't Plans to Propose Talks on Labor Guidelines at Gaeseong Complex

The government will propose bilateral talks with North Korea on the issue of Pyongyang's revision of labor regulations governing its workers' salaries at the inter-Korean Gaeseong Industrial Complex.

Unification Ministry vice spokeswoman Park Soo-jin said Friday that the South Korean government firmly believes that the issue of revising labor regulations should be settled through discussions between both sides.

Previously, North Korea rejected accepting the government’s letter of protest and the opinions of the South Korean companies operating at the Gaeseong factory park.

Without consulting with the South Korean government, North Korea recently revised 13 labor regulations for the factory park, removing the wage hike ceiling set at five percent.
