US Reaffirms Support Toward Inter-Korean Talks

The U.S. has reiterated that it supports improved relations between the two Koreas in response to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s expressed willingness to actively pursue inter-Korean dialogue.

A U.S. State Department official made the remark following Kim’s New Year’s message on Thursday in which the North Korean leader said there is no reason not to hold the "highest-level dialogue" between the two Koreas if conditions are right.

With such a statement, Washington appears to have reaffirmed its stance that it will comprehensively support current efforts led by Seoul to enhance ties between the two Koreas.

The U.S. refrained from officially evaluating the conditions or intentions for dialogue that the North has proposed.
