Nanta Audience Tops 10 Mln for First Time

The cumulative audience for the non-verbal performance Nanta has exceeded 10 million for the first time.

Its producer PMC Production said Friday that Nanta's cumulative audience at home and abroad totaled 10-million-85-thousand-10 people as of December 31 last year.

Nanta began in October 1997 in Seoul's Ho-Am Art Museum. It is the country's first non-verbal performance based on South Korea's traditional percussion music Samulnori.

It depicts the preparation of traditional wedding dishes by three cooks and a manager over the course of an hour.

The show sold out during its participation in Edinburgh's Fringe festival in the U.K. It also played on Broadway in New York, a first for an Asian show.

So far, it has been performed 31-thousand-290 times in 289 cities in 51 countries.
