The governor of the host province for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics said it is realistically impossible that some events be held in North Korea.
Gangwon Governor Choi Moon-soon made the remarks to a KBS reporter on Monday following a media report of his remarks that one or two snowboard events, which do not require much cost and time for the construction of facilities, could be held in North Korea.
Choi said that he had simply presented the idea, but that it is practically impossible to arrange the events in the North, considering the time left before the games and other conditions relating to the North.
He added that if the North agreed, one or two Olympic events could be arranged in the North after consulting with related organizations.
The governor said that it would be best for the two Koreas to form a unified team for the games, but it would be impossible unless the two sides reach agreement within the first half of this year.
