The executive order that U.S. President Barack Obama signed last Friday to impose additional sanctions on North Korea has been confirmed to be Executive Order 13687.
Washington revealed the number of the new executive order through the U.S. Federal Register on Tuesday.
With the new executive order, the total number of such orders related to sanctioning the North has risen to four since 2008.
The latest executive order focuses on sanctioning the North’s government, the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea and organizations under the government and party.
Under the executive order, the U.S. Treasury Department has designated three North Korean entities - the Reconnaissance General Bureau, Korea Mining Development Trading Corporation and the Korea Tangun Trading Corporation - and ten individuals as subjects to the latest sanctions.
These designated parties will be cut off from the U.S. financial system and barred from conducting transactions with U.S. nationals.
Diplomatic sources say the Treasury Department could expand the scope of the sanctions based on the new executive order.
