The head of a South Korean civic group that has led an anti-Pyongyang leaflet campaign has expressed willingness to withhold a plan to send the DVDs of the movie, “The Interview,” to North Korea.
Park Sang-hak, a North Korean defector and representative of the Fighters for a Free North Korea, said Friday that he will comply with the South Korean government if it requests that he hold off the plan.
He added, however, he will continue with the plan if the government’s request is on grounds of his own safety.
Last week, Park announced his aim of sending the Hollywood movie depicting the fictitious assassination of North Korea leader Kim Jong-un in 100,000 DVDs and USBs in balloons across the border.
The South Korean government suggested it could intervene in the campaign activities to ensure Park safety following a death threat issued to him on Wednesday by the North's Pyongyang Broadcasting Station.
A Seoul official said Friday that the government is considering several options to dissuade Park from sending the DVDs of the movie, including holding a meeting with him.
