Asian Cup to Kick Off Friday, S. Korea to Play Oman on Saturday

The Asian Football Confederation Asian Cup will open a 23-day-long competition Friday starting with the opening match between the host Australia and Kuwait.

The South Korean national football team will launch its Asian Cup campaign against Oman on Saturday. Team Korea, led by German manager Uli Stielike, is bidding to lift its first Asian Cup since 1960.

South Korea is paired together with Australia, Kuwait and Oman in Group A. A total of 16 countries will compete at the group stage, with two best teams of each of four groups eligible to advance to the knock-out stage.

KBS will live-air the South Korea-Oman match that kicks off in Canberra at 2 p.m. Saturday through KBS 2 Channel.
