US Lawmaker Tries to Add N. Korea to Terror-Sponsor List

A U.S. congresswoman has introduced a bill calling for North Korea to be re-instated as a state sponsor of terrorism.

Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen submitted the North Korea Sanctions and Diplomatic Nonrecognition Act of 2015 on Thursday.

In a statement, she said recent events have “reaffirmed the nefarious nature of the North Korean regime,” but evidence that the North should have never been removed from the terrorism sponsor list has been growing for years.

The U.S. placed North Korea on its terrorism sponsor list after the 1987 bombing of a Korean Air flight, but then removed it in 2008 after the North agreed to make progress in denuclearization talks.
