Domestic Movie "Ode to My Father" Surpasses 10-Mln Ticket Milestone

The local movie “Ode to My Father” has become the first film to attract 10 million moviegoers in South Korea this year.

The Korean Film Council said Wednesday that the film has sold 10-million-783 tickets since its release on December 17, including 154-thousand-712 on Tuesday.

It is the 11th South Korean movie that has sold more than 10 million tickets at South Korean cinemas. Three foreign movies have also reached that milestone.

Yoon Je-Kyun, the film’s director, has also become the first-ever South Korean director to produce more than one ten-million ticket seller. His 2009 disaster epic, “Haeundae,” also passed the ten-million mark.

Inspired by the Hollywood movie, “Forest Gump,” “Ode to My Father” meanders through major events in South Korea’s modern history following the story of the head of a family.
