The International Olympic Committee has made a final confirmation that there will be no sharing of venues for the 2018 Pyeognchang Winter Olympic Games in South Korea.
During an interim review meeting on Pyeongchang's preparations held in Gangneung, Gangwon Province Friday, Chairwoman Gunilla Lindberg of the IOC Coordination Commission said that the current plan on the Olympic facilities will proceed as scheduled.
She explained that the IOC proposed sharing of the winter games to the Pyeongchang organizing committee only in accordance with the Olympic Agenda 2020 strategic roadmap.
She said that since the location of the facilities has been finalized, the IOC would lead preparation efforts through consultation with the Korean organizers.
Just before the IOC review meeting began, civic group members including Green Korea United barged into the conference hall and called for sharing of the 2018 Winter Olympics.
A dozen members of three civic and environmental groups were also outside the building shouting their call to co-host the Olympics for the protection of Gariwang Mountain and other environmental concerns.
